How to run this check

  1. Open the Frame Skipping Test and leave the numbered pattern running automatically
  2. Wait until the pattern state changes from WAIT to READY
  3. Enter fullscreen and steady a camera in front of the display
  4. Use a shutter time around 1/10 second or longer and take at least three photographs
  5. Look for a missing numbered position that repeats across otherwise consecutive trails

What this browser test can tell you

Can help you check

  • Whether repeated long-exposure photographs of the numbered browser sequence contain the same missing position while browser animation timing is stable.

Cannot measure

  • This test cannot automatically detect skipped hardware frames, certify a monitor overclock, or distinguish the display, cable, GPU, compositor, browser, and camera as the cause.
Setup, interpretation, and sources

Recommended setup

  1. Keep the tab visible, wait for READY, enter fullscreen, and steady the camera square to the display.
  2. Start near a 1/10 second shutter time, lower ISO or display brightness if the trail clips, and take at least three photographs.

How to interpret what you see

  • A normal capture shows one continuous run of numbered positions; the exact number and brightness of cells vary with shutter time and refresh cadence.
  • Treat a gap as suspicious only when the same missing position repeats in several otherwise consecutive photographs.
  • Rolling shutter, exposure settings, camera processing, browser scheduling, and operating-system composition can create misleading results.

Camera setup

  1. 1. Set the exposure

    Start around 1/10 second or longer. Manual or Pro mode is easiest.

  2. 2. Separate the cells

    Lower ISO, exposure, or display brightness if the trail becomes one white smear.

  3. 3. Repeat the photo

    Take at least three steady photographs and compare the sequence, not one image.
